Quality Manager

Purpose of Role/Key Objectives

The Quality Manager holds three primary areas of responsibility and manages these through themselves and a team of engineers:

1.       Product Quality

2.       Supplier Management

3.       Quality Systems

The manager must ensure that there are sufficient engineers to discharge the following duties and that they poses the relevant skills to do so.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

NPI:

·         Ensure that all products are reviewed as part of the design process for potential quality and manufacturing issues including DFM and DFA

·         Ensure that OEM and internal production lines are set up and under process control to support PP and MP requirements

·         Ensure that all prototype and early product samples are reviewed for manufacturing issues and these issues undergo RCA with corrective action being put in place

·         Ensure quality tools & techniques are utilised at the correct times to ensure risk of defects is minimised (including but not limited to DFMEA, PFMEA, control plans, process flow charts, capability studies & Gage R&R)

·         Ensure progress of NPI projects and risk are escalated through the gating process and act as the custodian for quality at all phase gate reviews

Production Quality:

·         Ensure that the Naim manufacturing base (internal & external) is fit for purpose in that it has the correct process and capabilities in place to manufacture products to the highest standard

·         Manage reoccurring audits of production lines (internal & external) to maintain compliance and identify opportunities for improvement

·         Set up and manage a MRB programme to monitor, analyse and correct production rejects

Aftermarket Quality:

·         Ensure that product return rates and customer feedback on products is understood and analysed

·         Based on this data, corrective actions are driven to improve the quality of products and the manufacturing process within a timely manner

Quality Control:

·         Create and implement QC structure capable of controlling quality of inbound goods

·         Reorganise the final stages of the production and QC process to provide independent management lines

·         Maintain a capability view of each of the suppliers based on standard supply metrics (e.g. DPPM, PSI lot acceptance, 8D resolution, on-time delivery)

Supplier Management:

·         Lead supplier audit and approval activities (domestic and international)

·         Development of supplier KPI’s and management of supplier performance

Quality Systems:

·         Lead maintenance and development of the business QMS (ISO 9001:2015)

·         Training & mentoring of internal auditor team

·         Management of internal audit schedules

·         Coordination & management of external audits including internal readiness reviews to ensure compliance

Management:

·         Ensure that Naim have a team in place  to support the above requirements and that they have the relevant skills to discharge their duties

·         Ensure teams have sufficient direction and support to create/maintain a positive and motivated work environment

·         Monitor department efficiency and performance with a view to identify improvement opportunities

·         Communicate and roll out improved/new processes and procedures to wider business and external stakeholders

Other:

·         Other duties as assigned – role and responsibility will change as business systems and controls mature

 

Skills & Requirements

  • Strong personality with the ability to lead and influence internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to confidently and clearly communicate with all levels of stakeholders
  • Proven ability to manage quality systems and maintain external accreditation
  • Significant supplier management experience – ability to audit and manage a varied supply base (domestic & international)
  • Broad manufacturing experience
  • Ability to utilise common quality tool and techniques

    3. APQP
    4. SPC
    5. MSA
  • Analytical, data-led approach – ability to define data sets, analyse results and identify corrective action
  • Computer literacy

 

Qualification / Experience

·         A minimum of Maths and English to G.C.S.E Grade C or above·      

·         Previous experience in a similar Quality Management role

·         Proven ability to build effective quality teams – educating and developing staff – effective deployment of resource

·         Management of sub-contract manufacturing in a variety of suppliers of varying size and capability

·         Managing and leading quality aspects of the NPD/NPI process

·         Managing field quality with demonstrable ability to analyse and improve defect rates in a timely fashion

·         Implementation of statistical tools & techniques

·         Experience with various manufacturing processes/commodities such as electro-mechanical assemblies, plastic injection moulding, metal processing & finishing, electronic manufacturing & assembly and contract manufacturing

·         Proven track record of managing and maintaining external accreditations (e.g. ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 45001, ISO 14001)
