Junior Quality Engineer

Purpose of Role/Key Objectives

The Junior Quality Engineer is an active member of the team who will be instrumental in supporting all elements within the Quality team (QA, QC, SQA & QMS). However, they will primarily work within the QA function.

The JQE is responsible for the management of product quality during NPI, manufacture and in the field. They will manage product platforms and hold responsibility for RCA & CA during the product lifecycle as well as defining and maintaining QC standards.

As this is a junior position within the team, support and mentoring will be provided.

Main Duties and Responsibilities



·       Participate in prototype and early product sample reviews – ensure quality & manufacturing concerns are identified and raised

·       Ensure that all products are reviewed as part of the design process for potential quality and manufacturing issues including DFM and DFA

·       Assist in ensuring that OEM and internal production lines are set up and under process control to support PP and MP requirements

·       Ensure quality tools & techniques are utilised at the correct times to ensure risk of defects is minimised (including but not limited to DFMEA, PFMEA, control plans, process flow charts, capability studies & Gage R&R) – training to be provided

·       Support progress of NPI projects – ensure issues and risks are escalated to the Product Quality Manager and addressed via the phase gate process

·       Support members of the QA and QC team with the creation and implementation of QC standards prior to product launch


·       Assist the SQA & QMS Engineer with supplier and in-house audits where required

·       Support and assist with third party audits where required

Production Quality:

·       Execute reoccurring audits of production lines (internal & external) to maintain compliance and identify opportunities for development

·       Participate in MRB programme to monitor, analyse and correct production rejects

Aftermarket Quality:

·       Ensure timely investigation of product returns and recording of relevant information

·       Responsible for root cause analysis and assist in the implementation of corrective action

Quality Control:

·       Support the QC team as required & ensure all QC materials are up to date & relevant

Continuous Improvement (CI) projects:

·       Generation of CI proposals

·       Participation in CI projects and session


Other duties as assigned – role and responsibility will change as business systems and controls mature.

Skills & Requirements

In order to be considered for this role, you must be competent with the use of standard metrology equipment including Vernier callipers, height gauge, Vernier protractor etc. You will be a clear and concise communicator with sound IT skills. The ability to interpret Technical Drawings will be advantageous.
