Here at Naim Audio we have an exciting opportunity for a music-loving Electronics Design Engineer to join us and form part of our passionate R&D team designing and testing the analogue / digital technology that form our products to ensure that they not only excel in performance but also in appearance. In order for our products to pass the rigorous quality testing – each component has to earn its place.

Unlike most other consumer electronics, Naim Audio products are not designed to be replaced three or four years down the line, they are built for sustainability, as an investment to enable the customer to enjoy many years of incredible musical experience.

Reporting to the Head of Electronic Design the role will involve audio circuit design, testing, simulation, etc. to ensure that all our products embrace Naim and Focal's design ethos and working practices.  Electronic design work for analogue and digital design will include filters, ADC, DSP, host, DAC amplifiers, etc.; simulation and analysis; PCB design, prototyping, sourcing, product testing, and quality checking.

Fundamentally your role is to be part of the UK team that ensures that our customers continue to receive the same uncompromised listening experiences that they have done for nearly 50 years; we seek to go beyond an audiophile sound that is technically brilliant, and strive for the glorious emotional experience of the music

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Electronic design including;-

  • Analogue and digital design (Filters, ADC, DSP, host, DAC, gain stages, amplifiers etc)
  • Simulation and analysis of circuits
  • Schematic entry into the CAD system
  • PCB Design
  • PCB and Circuit testing on bench (lab work)
  • Prototyping when necessary
  • Liaising with PCB manufacturers
  • Sourcing standard samples and liaising with companies for custom samples
  • Other product testing e.g. safety, listening etc
  • All employees have a responsibility for quality and must check the quality of the work they perform.

Skills & Requirements

  • Computer skills – Microsoft and Windows applications
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Understanding of computer networks and fault finding
  • Lab work skills for measuring, fault finding, testing, etc
  • Some workshop skills – drilling, milling
  • Knowledge of Pads Pro ECAD preferable
  • Good time management and organization
  • The job holder should be a good team player, able to interact with all other departments easily and have the ability to multi-task efficiently.

Qualification / Experience

  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent qualification
  • Experience in audio sector Good solid analogue electronic design background with preferably at least two years’ experience in this function.
