Managing Metadata and album artwork

Metadata and album artwork are essential for organizing and enjoying your digital music collection. Whether you're using a Uniti Core to rip CDs or managing files from other sources, Naim provides tools to help you edit and enhance your music library.

This guide explains how to change album artwork, force metadata lookups, and understand how genre information is handled.

Changing Album Artwork

If the artwork for a ripped or imported album is incorrect or missing, you can update it manually using the Focal & Naim app.

How to Change Artwork:

  1. Open the Focal & Naim app and navigate to the album.
  2. Tap the horizontal three dots next to the album cover, then tap ‘Edit metadata’.
  3. Select “Change cover”.
  4. Choose a new image from your device or from one of the listed search engines.
  5. Save the changes.

Artwork should be in JPEG format and ideally under 1MB for best compatibility.

Forcing a Metadata Lookup

If an album was ripped without an internet connection or metadata was incomplete, you can force the Uniti Core to re-identify it.

How to Force a Lookup:

  1. Ensure your Uniti Core is connected to the internet.
  2. Open the Focal & Naim app.
  3. Navigate to the album with missing or incorrect metadata.
  4. Tap the edit icon and select “Re-identify”.
  5. The Core will search online databases and update the album details.

✓ This process can retrieve track names, artist info, release year, and artwork.

Genre Handling in Metadata

Naim systems display genre information based on the metadata embedded in your music files. However, genre tags can vary widely depending on the source.

Key Points:

  • Genres are shown in the Focal & Naim app and on device screens.
  • If a file has no genre tag, it may appear as “Unknown” or be grouped with other untagged files.
  • You can edit genre tags using the app (for ripped content) or third-party software (for external files imported onto the Core).

Consistent genre tagging improves browsing and playlist creation.

Final Tips

  • Always rip CDs with an active internet connection to ensure complete metadata.
  • Use the Focal & Naim app to manage your library and correct any missing information.

For imported files, ensure metadata is properly embedded before transferring to your Naim system.
